• My Tips to Thrive While We Stay at Home

    April 13, 2020 | Julie Moore
  • Hi from my favorite little sitting nook. I’ve been spending a lot of time here lately. Most days the warm sun beams in through the south window, my two cats curl up nearby while I read or do a crossword puzzle (they aren't much help) or study Spanish (mis gatos son muy guapos!).

It has been a full month now since I last closed the door at Windrose Acupuncture. In that moment I was unaware and unsuspecting of how things would change, literally overnight. The four weeks since could best be titled: (1) Shocked (2) Anxious (3) Clean the Basement (4) The Socially Distant Birthday Party.

Today is Week 5 Day 1. The title for this week is TBD. I have (re)learned to let things unfold as they will, but this isn’t easy for me. I’m a natural born planner. I’ve had several starts and stops at resetting my expectations in this hard-to-imagine reality. For now I’ve settled on three mantras to guide me through my days. I’m not 100% successful at following these, but I’m doing my best.

    • everything takes longer than expected: be patient with myself and others.
    • emotions are a roller coaster: breathe deeply, maybe take a timeout to reset (what works for me: talk with a friend, search for a recipe to try, read, practice yoga, do nothing for a few moments).
    • simple pleasures are all around, enjoy each one and be grateful.
    • BONUS: a smile shows, even through a face mask: smile often.

I trust that this is a small moment in our lives and it will likely reshape each of us in many ways. I look forward to opening the door at Windrose Acupuncture sometime soon and learning how this experience has reshaped you. What a reunion that will be! In the meantime, if I can support you in any way, please contact me.

Wishing you peace in this unusual time.
    Be well!

    Julie
